CEU has a dual accreditation as a graduate university in the US and in Hungary. It has a unique combination of American, European and regional intellectual and academic traditions. It follows the American model in research, teaching methods, and in the training of doctoral students. CEU also embodies Europe's cultural traditions and new developmental objectives. Both teaching and research at CEU reflect this meeting point, placing a strong emphasis on intercultural awareness.

The university is also unique in its international character: it has no dominant national culture. Its 1400 students come from over 80 countries: its faculty and staff-from 30.

Students come from Central and Eastern Europe, Russia, the Caucasus and Central Asia. And, increasingly, CEU welcomes talented students from all over the world. The language of communication and instruction is English.

CEU's unique international community exposes students to many different and sometimes opposing points of view. The CEU experience thus allows students to develop invaluable intercultural communication skills, and a deep understanding of the many challenges along the ever-changing boundary between local universalism and global contextualism.
