SUN faculty teams are composed of CEU professors as well as other leading scholars and experts from universities and research or professional institutions all over the world. In any one course participants are able to work with a mixture of Eastern and Western academics and practitioners from 5-6 different countries, affiliated with CEU and other educational or professional institutions, often coming from different discipline areas. Most of our courses are designed to encourage a cross-disciplinary and cross-national inquiry into currently relevant issues such as ethnic relations, migration, nationalism and transnationalism, globalisation, human rights, urban development, poverty reduction, religion and identity, gender, etc.
The interdisciplinary nature of the courses is both a challenge and, at the same time, one of the most rewarding aspects of participating in the program for the faculty and the participants alike, as illustrated by some of these comments:

The very divergent profiles of the faculty, both with regard to their academic disciplines and area of specialization, increased the span of thematic areas covered and generated a productive sense of the complexity of the issue."A broad range of teaching methods are used to enliven the courses such as intensive reading seminars, panel and group discussions, individual and group projects, presentations, field trips, etc. During the course while faculty members present their topics through lectures, seminars, etc., they also facilitate work on the development of participants' research and/or policy agendas through individual tutorials, office hours. As in most summer schools, the classroom interaction is supplemented by extracurricular academic and social events such as film-screenings, public lectures, and informal social gatherings (boat trip on the Danube, outings, welcome and farewell receptions, etc.)
